In the recent so-called sexual revolution that is defining what it is like to live in the 21st century, some people feel left out. As sexuality redefines itself and becomes more open and inventive not all new sexual fads can be enjoyed by all people. Professor of sexuality at Ohio State University, George Revell, says, "the new craze is dirty talk, women love it and for men it just comes natural. It enhances the excitement and arousal of a sexual encounter even among spouses." Although this view is widespread and the practice of dirty talk is rising, one couple has tried it and doesn't think it enhances anything. Paul Gross and Abigail Murray, a deaf couple recently signed that "dirty talk just gets in the way."

This is a problem for many deaf couples who have to communicate through the use of their hands not allowing them to do other things while "signing dirty." Paul expressed his frustration, "I want to just tell her things that all guys want to tell their partner but I have to stop what I'm doing and get her to look at me and sign it to her, it just is really inconvenient and hurts the moment." Abigail responded and said "I would love dirty talk and I know he tries but I really think he should concentrate on other things first." There is no solution in sight that would allow the deaf community to join in on this relatively new innovation.
Revell claims that there are ways to get around the sound barrier, different signals are all that is needed. "Dirty talk doesn't have to get in the way, just create signs using other parts of your body, such as feet, mouth, or a series of taps like Morse code. By tapping your finger on her body she should be able to feel it and decipher through Morse code what you are saying, no hand eye contact needed." Gross responded by signing, "that is ridiculous, Morse code through taps on a body is as bad as trying to see by feeling." For now, it doesn't seem that the deaf have any light at the end of the tunnel where dirty talk is considered and "signing dirty" will just have to strictly adhere to the sphere of foreplay.
